Fashion Notes
Let’s keep this simple - after all, if fashion is too complicated, none of us are doing it! Let’s summarize what's coming up for fall/winter :
The wide, loose, relaxed look is here to stay when it comes to denim, trousers or faux leather. Denim is longer this fall, crop is less prominent. And rips are becoming less significant. Clean denim - either light or dark - with no distressing is the go to this season.
Proportions are in - oversized in something is a MUST. And if you don’t want the full meal deal you can dabble in a fitted top with loose pants. Or an oversized top with a tapered or straight leg (not skinny) pant. Leggings are still acceptable but they have multiple layers and chunky boots styled with them and are a very niche sporty look. Or runners and a chunky sock. You get the idea! For fashion, we want a play on proportions and a good mix.
Layers. Vests, belts, that top layer that finishes off an outfit. And yes, layer under your oversized winter coat for an ultra cool look!
Knits are always in and it's somewhat of a love language living in Canada. Who doesn't LOVE putting on a cozy sweater on a chilly morning? Either colour or neutral. Unexpected pops of colour is fun and interesting when mixed with neutrals such as a cobalt blue sweater with beige trousers.
Faux leather is still strong! And you will see more and more of it…. in tops, bottoms, etc. The key to pulling it off is to embrace the feminine style and feel rather than chunky biker style. Faux leather has become soft like butter rather than stiff. The pants we are seeing have shape and vary from black, cognac or shell. They can be wide leg, straight leg, jogger style, etc. The tops have feminine shape, pleats, gathering, ruffles, etc. It's the perfect juxtaposition - edgy with soft.
With the reach of social media, there is an ever growing heavy European influence in fashion and design. France, Denmark & Italy especially. Less flimsy, droopy and more tailored, oversized. Simple detail - pleats, puff sleeves, fabric covered tone on tone buttons, collars, a tailored twist on a regular garment. Comfort but style. And a tone on tone minimalist influence is strong when it comes to everyday fashion making it easy to reinvent a simple piece a multitude of ways.
Cargo pants and corduroy are here to stay through fall and winter! Pair either of them with a classic tee, long jacket, pointed boots and you've instantly created an easy, fashion forward look that is far from complicated.
Fashion is a form of creative expression. If there are rules, break them. Get to know your body and experiment with different styles. We would rather you step outside your box and try on 100 items to only buy one or two than resist attempting something new and continue buying within your safe zone. You are all so open to trying new things with us - so keep doing that!
