The craft of paper mache is centuries old, dating back to the Meghal Emperors of the 15th century.
Paper mache bowls were traditionally used as food storage vessels in homes throughout much of India, especially in the region of Madhya Pradesh where monsoons are common. Paper mache made a perfect storage piece for rice, legumes and flour. Many of our hand-picked bowls have a unique hand-painted design as households took pride in decorating and beautifying their important vessels.
Each bowl is between 30 to 80 years old and has its own unique characteristics that make each one of a kind.
